Marissa Mahon is a self-advocate and mother of a child with a disability. She is not new to disability advocacy, having litigated a case against the Department of Transportation for nine years and successfully fought discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In her professional career, Mahon works for a fleet management company as a supply chain account executive. In the past two years, Mahon also founded the Special Education Parent Advisory Council in Southlake Carroll Independent School District. She is looking forward to the special education audit at the end of the 2022 school year.

Cameras in Special Education Classrooms

Project Description

This capstone project will aim to successfully amend the language in Texas Education Code §29.022 to ensure it protects and includes all students with disabilities by mandating cameras in every special education classroom from resource to self-contained. In addition, other measures will be included in the bill amendment to fulfill the intent of the law.
