Nilam Agrawal is passionate about creating awareness about the unique needs of individuals who are deaf-blind and advocating for their educational rights. “As a mother of two children with disabilities, I am concerned about the early identification and inclusion of children with disabilities in Texas public schools,” states Agrawal. “I hope to improve my knowledge of education law; and gain skills in advocacy, community engagement, collaborative work, and effective partnership in policymaking. This will help me to work together with Texas policymakers to create a system that can ensure that all students with disabilities receive strong, inclusive, and appropriate education support in the state of Texas.”
For This Child: Intentionally Educating Parents (I.E.P)
For This Child-Intentionally Educating Parents (I.E.P.) was co-founded by Nilam Agrawal and Rebekah Gillespie to educate parents on Procedural Safeguards and Individualized Education Program (IEP) Processes in Special Education. The goal of the project is to connect with parents of children with disabilities and empower them with information, tools, and resources to be meaningful participants in their child’s education. In addition, they aim to be a hub for central information and available resources regarding IDEA, Procedural Safeguards, and IEP process.
