Deborah Arrona, of La Porte, is the parent of a child with a disability and she applied for the program because she wants to positively impact education and healthcare policies for people living with disabilities in Texas. “I hope to gain knowledge and strategies to communicate more effectively and be the best advocate I can for my child and other people living with medical fragilities and complexities in Texas,” Arrona said.

Inclusive Changing Tables for all Texas Travelers

Project Description

Impact policy and design standards for Texas Safety Rest Areas to make them as inclusive, safe, and dignified as possible by including adult-sized changing tables in restrooms. The partner will research building code and design standards and will connect with organizations, decision-makers, and families of individuals with disabilities affected by the lack of inclusive changing tables at rest areas.
