Shannon Berry lives in Pearland and is the parent of a child with Down syndrome. “All children deserve the same education and opportunities, regardless of their number of chromosomes or what other…disability they may have,” said Berry. “Research has proven that including children with disabilities in the general education classroom is best practice; it is time all of Texas stood up for inclusive education.”

Educating the Medical Community: Delivering a Person-Centered Diagnosis

Project Description

Educate medical providers on how to deliver a prenatal or postnatal diagnosis to parents of children born with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Medical providers will be educated on person-centered care, specifically to treat the patient rather than focusing solely on the diagnosis. The partner will connect and collaborate with hospital and medical school leadership to develop a training program that fosters and promotes compassionate and person-centered care.
