Introducing the Texas Partners in Policymaking 2024-2025 Class
We are thrilled to announce the newest cohort of Texas Partners in Policymaking! From all corners of the Lone Star State, 28 passionate advocates have come together to embark on a journey of learning. These dedicated individuals — self-advocates and family members — are ready to deepen their understanding of systems that affect people with disabilities, sharpen their advocacy skills, and lead projects that will drive positive change in their communities.
The Texas Partners in Policymaking program is an advanced leadership training initiative that equips individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for people with developmental disabilities (DD). Participants will engage in comprehensive training on public policy, disability rights, and strategies for effective advocacy. They will also work on hands-on community projects aimed at increasing inclusion and accessibility for Texans with DD.
With more than 780 graduates since its inception, Texas Partners in Policymaking is part of a nationwide network that empowers individuals to engage directly with policymakers and push for policies that enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Originally developed in 1987 by the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, the program has grown to serve communities across the United States and internationally.
